Why Should You Use Conveyor Covers?

In the project design of a belt conveyor, after having defined the components of primary importance, it is important to consider other accessories such as covers for the conveyor.

Conveyor Covers for Belt Conveyor Protecting

The necessity to protect belt conveyors may arise from the weather, from the volatile characteristics of the conveyed material, or from the type of works plant, and also from European norms that require the covering of the total length of a belt conveyor in the open. For example rain may create a problem of belt slip on the drums causing a tracking problem. Our belt conveyor covers suit for fixed belt conveyor, mobile conveyors and ship loader conveyors.

Extreme temperatures may cause equipment failure or shutdown, whilst very strong wind may move the conveyor belt off its natural position causing serious problems to the business or loss of conveyed material.

Belt conveyors covers do not require maintenance and are very easy to install and move around. The fixing system is designed in a way that allows quick and easy relocation of the covers to facilitate the inspection of the conveyor.

The covers proposed are made from galvanized sheet steel corrugated section. They are self supporting, safe, easy to install and adjustable to any structure. On request they can be supplied in other materials or finished with special paint.

They are available for all belt widths and supporting structure and can be supplied with opening windows for inspection and there are also removable covers and ventilated covers for hot environmental conditions. They are maintenance free.

Protecting the Environment and Communities

Controlling dust emissions is crucial for safeguarding human health and the environment, presenting a significant concern for operators handling bulk materials. Utilizing conveyor belts for material transportation inevitably generates dust, posing challenges for containment.

When dust becomes fugitive and airborne, it can disrupt production processes, leading to increased costs and additional resources required for cleanup and worker safety. To address this issue, many operators have turned to conveyor belt covers as a cost-effective, efficient, and safe solution for dust containment and reduction. By covering conveyor belts, the risk of dust emissions affecting nearby residents, communities, and ecosystems can be significantly reduced, ensuring the health and well-being of future generations.

Visible dust emissions can raise concerns among workers, communities, and regulatory bodies regarding their impact on health, safety, and environmental compliance. Compliance with regulatory standards for airborne contaminants is essential to avoid community backlash, fines, and production shutdowns. In regions with stricter environmental regulations, conveyor belt covers are mandated, becoming a standard practice for operators to meet their obligations.

Protecting Your Workers

Conveyor belt covers play a crucial role in preventing work-related accidents and injuries caused by the characteristics of conveyed materials. Without proper shielding, heavy, sharp, and abrasive materials pose a risk of flying off the conveyor belt, endangering workers during maintenance and repair activities.

Covered conveyor belts help suppress dust emissions, reducing health hazards for workers exposed to excessive dust levels. Failure to control dust inhalation can lead to serious lung damage and diseases like silicosis, highlighting the importance of ensuring worker safety through effective dust containment measures.

Not All Covers Are Equal

When selecting conveyor belt covers, factors such as durability, lightweight design, aerodynamics, and maintenance accessibility should be considered. Advanced engineering designs and high-quality materials enable the customization of conveyor belt covers to suit various applications and weather conditions.

Conveyor belt covers made from materials like galvanized steel, pre-lacquered steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and fiber-reinforced polyester offer durability and weather resistance. Features like patented lock/hinge systems ensure secure protection against heat, wind, humidity, and rain, while allowing easy access for maintenance.

Service props and struts complement conveyor belt covers, facilitating routine maintenance by providing secure support and easy access inside the covers. Adjustable systems ensure safe and hassle-free maintenance operations, enhancing overall efficiency and worker safety.
